Overview of KSB Death Grant

What is KSB Death Grant?

The KSB Death Grant is a financial assistance scheme administered by the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
It provides a one-time monetary grant to the widow or dependent family members of a deceased Ex-Serviceman (ESM) to help them cope with immediate financial requirements arising after the death of the ESM.

The main objective of this scheme is to offer compassionate financial relief to economically weaker ex-servicemen families and ensure that the dependents of deceased soldiers receive timely assistance and emotional security during a difficult period.

Eligibility Criteria for KSB Death Grant

  1. The deceased must be a registered Ex-Serviceman (ESM) with the Zila Sainik Board (ZSB).

  2. The applicant (widow or dependent) must be the legal heir of the deceased ESM.

  3. The family income should be within the KSB’s prescribed limit (generally ₹8,000–₹10,000 per month; subject to change).

  4. The application must be submitted within a reasonable period after the ESM’s death.

  5. Death should be certified by the competent authority (Municipal body / Registrar / Hospital / Gram Panchayat).

  6. Assistance is provided only once for each deceased ESM case.

Amount of Financial Assistance

The KSB Death Grant provides a one-time financial assistance of ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 (depending on the policy in effect).
The approved amount is directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account via NEFT/ECS after verification and approval.
